To celebrate a scene in Hocus Pocus 2 taking place in a Walgreens (that was recently rebranded by Design Bridge), we took the iconic W and created a spooky Halloween addition with references from the original Hocus Pocus film.
The W has been illustrated in many different ways and styles so it was great to get the opportunity to bring a new W to life.
Below shows how the different levels of grain, fire and bubbles layered together to build the scene.

Although this is quite a short animation, I really wanted to polish the small details because they add up to make the scene feel more natural and alive. I took extra care crafting the reactions of the pot when an item was put in. The shot below was for the last item that caused a magic explosion that went on to reveal the W. I’ve slowed it down so you can take in everything that happens in a small space of time.
This is a still of when the colourways in the scene are inverted for a split second enhancing and adding energy to the moment the reaction erupts from the pot.
